Who is Day & Zimmermann?

Day & Zimmermann (D&Z) is a family-owned company with more than 120 years of experience. We have four main groups: maintenance and construction; government services; workforce solutions; and munitions. Here in Parsons, we focus on munitions.

At our Parsons location, as well as our Iowa and Texas locations, Day & Zimmermann produces top-quality munitions for the U.S. Army and its allies globally. Our work really makes a difference in supporting our warfighters and setting them up for success in defending our Nation.

What kinds of roles is D&Z hiring for?

We have a variety of exciting career opportunities available. In the plant, we have openings in production, maintenance, safety, and transportation. We also have occasional administrative opportunities available. Check out our careers page for a full list of current open roles.

Does D&Z feature any entry-level job opportunities?

Several of our career opportunities do not require any previous experience, just a willingness to learn and a positive attitude. Currently, our entry-level job openings include Production Assembly Operator and Production Pour Operator (Melt Pour). We welcome all interested candidates to apply!

What is a typical schedule for D&Z plant roles?

A typical day-shift role works Monday through Thursday, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM, while typical night-shift roles work Monday through Thursday, 4:30 PM – 3:30 AM. Our Parsons plant is closed on Fridays.

What’s the set-up of D&Z Parsons’ plant?

The plant has two main production buildings, each with its own assembly line. One building features a line about three-quarters of a mile long. Each employee has an assigned task along the line that he or she is responsible for during a shift. The second building is dedicated to melt pour, which steams the chemicals into the munition rounds. The melt pour building has various teams, from handling to labeling to facing and pouring the chemicals.

What does the interview process look like?

  1. A candidate submits their resume to apply for a position, either on our website or from a job board.
  2. If the candidate meets the job’s qualification requirements, the Talent Acquisition Partner will reach out directly.
  3. The Talent Acquisition Partner will conduct a quick phone interview with the candidate and, if all goes well, set up an interview with a Hiring Manager.
  4. The candidate interviews with the department’s Hiring Manager.

From here, an offer may or may not be extended to the candidate, depending on how the interview process goes.

Are there any tests a candidate must undergo to be hired?

Once a candidate has accepted the offer, D&Z will conduct a background check and a physical exam.

How long do the interview and hiring processes typically take?

From the first phone call with the Talent Acquisition Partner to the candidate’s first day of employment at D&Z, the interview and hiring process usually takes about 2-3 weeks.

What qualifications do Talent Acquisition Partners look for in candidates?

There are many factors that make a candidate’s resume stand out. Some roles require specific licenses, degrees, or experience, which of course play a major role in the selection process.

More generally, hands-on experience in production or assembly is a plus, as is length of time a candidate has spent in their previous jobs. We like to see people who stay with a company for longer periods of time – we are looking for candidates who want to build a career here at D&Z.
